Without a cloud in the sky on a beautiful picture perfect spring day, Back In Black resumed competition. The sunshine filled morning gave way to football after a two-week layoff that saw torrential rains that produced severe flooding in the st. Louis area.
The the Renegades won the coin toss and moved the ball to the 5 -yard line on their opening drive. After a gritty goal line stand - Back In Black's defense forced the Renegades to settle for a 3-point field goal. Those would be the only points that the Back in Black defense surrendered on this Sunday afternoon.
Back in Black went to halftime maintaining a 12-3 lead over their opponent. QB Corey Dowden mixed runs with play action passes while operating the Back In Black game plan to keep the Renegades defense off balance all afternoon.
Several receivers and running backs pitched in on offense, taking full advantage of the robust play provided by the Back and Black offensive line to make the final score 20 to 3. Jay Clayton made several receptions to keep drives alive that included a "key" 4th Down catch early in the second half on a nicely timed crossing route from a scrambling Dowden.
Back In Blacks league leading offense should, and could, have dominated this contest by scoring more points, having drives that stalled on the 3 and 5 yard lines respectively at the end of the first half as well as the the games opening quarter.
All in all, Back In Black played focused team oriented football with the defense once again flexing its muscle and exuding relentless pressue on the Renegades offense throughout the entire contest.
Back In Black seems to be hitting on all cylinders with two games remaining in the regular season, the engine is revving up indeed. The finish line holds a checkered flag.
